Reflections

Publisher’s Foreword

Reflections from Ayatollah Āl Rāḍī by Sayyid Haidar Bahreluloom is an engaging and accessible dialogue that delves into various ethical topics, relevant to the current ideological and spiritual awakening sweeping across the world, particularly in the West. This has been sparked by the recent events in the Middle East, which have globally kindled an encouraging spirit of human unity and self-discovery.

This awakening necessitates a guiding beacon that underpins its movement. For the Shia denomination, this has been the Holy Quran, the Prophet (saw), his purified Progeny (p), and, during the Occultation of his 12th and final infallible successor from his progeny (aj), the Grand Religious Authorities and Jurists (May Allah SWT protect them all).

Ayatollah Shaykh Muhammad Hadi Āl Rāḍ ī (May Allah SWT prolong his age), who shares his caring wisdom in this book, is among the most distinguished and senior teachers of advanced jurisprudence, and a recognized jurist from the classical seminary of Najaf al-Ashraf. In this work, the author begins each topic with a series of questions, followed by a concise and structured exposition of the subject by Ayatollah Āl Rāḍ ī. His answers reflect the literary principles of the science of eloquence, which can be summarised in two words:

succinct and meaningful. The responses also follow a juristic approach that draws guidance from textual sources, namely the Holy Quran and narrations from the Fourteen Infallibles (P), enriched with anecdotes and elaborations.

These elements render this book an excellent resource for laypersons and for preachers to use in their sermons, especially with the inclusion of vowelled Arabic texts, which allow for accurate citation and a deeper appreciation of the original wording.
